Last Night’s TV - From The Top Of The Watchtower (via spenceb9)
Towards the end of 2002, director Ian Hamilton suggested making a video for a song from our ‘Too Much In Doubt’ album. ‘From The Top Of The Watchtower’ was the chosen tune, leading to numerous brainstorming sessions trying to figure out how we were going to represent visually what the song was originally written about (in brief: a wartime scenario with a chap looking out for enemy aircraft while at the same time keeping his eye on a lovely lass who regularly walked past his look-out post).
Zero budget (and acting ability) meant that the plot for the video had to go a slightly different route (although as you can see from the finished result, the ropey acting remains). We dropped any references to the lyrics and settled on a decidedly more surreal storyline. Hence the kettle, mystery antiques seller, snowglobe-obsessed hiker and woodland busker. What do the transactions mean? And how exactly does someone get transported from the kitchen of the old LNTV HQ into the middle of the Yorkshire Dales? Now that would be telling.
